2013 marked the 31st running of the Historic Festival at Lime Rock Park. I have attended many events at Lime Rock during the past 10 years, but this was my first time attending the Historic Festival. It was a four day event with practice and qualifying on Friday, 2 races for each group on Saturday, with another 2 races for each group on Monday. That's a total of 4 races for each group throughout the weekend! On Sunday, the Sunday in the Park Concours & Gathering of the Marques was held. During the concours event, vintage and modern cars of all makes were lined up along the entire length of the track. No matter what your taste in automobiles are, you were sure to find something that tickled your fancy.
So what cars tickled my fancy? It would have to be the Trans-Am cars of the late 60's and early 70's, of which they were well represented. When I first started driving, my friend and I would always argue over which was the better car, the Mustang or the Camaro. It was nice to be able to step back in time to the golden era of Trans-Am racing to see the old Mustangs and Camaros on the track, and to look back to the time when the rivalry between the two cars started.
Other than the Trans-Am cars, there were so many other cars of all types that I was happy to see. As you walk up and down the paddock, you never knew what surprises lay ahead. If you are an automotive enthusiast, I highly recommend you try to attend this event in the future. I know I will.
